Coalition of Polish Americans Letter to the Secretary of State
Delivered electronically
August 21, 2021
The Honorable Antony Blinken
U.S. Department of State
Office of the Secretary
Room 7226
Harry S. Truman Building
2201 C Street, NW
Washington, D.C. 20520
Dear Secretary Blinken:
We are writing on behalf of the Polish-American community to address statements you made regarding what you refer to mistakenly as “Holocaust restitution law” recently enacted by the Polish Parliament and signed into law by president Andrzej Duda. We believe that your assessment of the law is based on misconceptions resulting from inadequate understanding about what the law does and what is its intended purpose. We would like to point out that this law is nothing more than an amendment to the Code of Administrative Proceedings that enforces a ruling by the Polish Constitutional Tribunal made in May 2015 that intended to align the Polish property law and related administrative decisions with the Polish Constitution. At the time of this decision the current opposition was in power and the recent law was enacted with an overwhelming support across party lines.
We believe that President Duda’s signing statement clearly explains the intent of the law and how it should be understood. We hope that this will clarify the current misconceptions that have led to unfounded and baseless accusations levelled against the Polish government and against Poles in general. We strongly hope that the U.S government officials base their statements on adequate understanding of legal text they criticize as well as historical circumstances. We would like to remind you that Poland was the first country invaded by Germany during World War II, suffered untold devastation during the war, lost 6 million of its citizens, and never received commensurable compensation from the German and Soviet invaders. It is absolutely unacceptable to treat victims as if they were oppressors.

WWII history vs. USHMM representations – omissions and falsifications of events in occupied Poland
Coalition of Polish Americans supports the following letter to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum:
Prof. Wendy Lowler, Clairmont College, Chair, Academic Committee, USHMM Mandel Center
Prof. David Engel, New York University, Committee Member
Prof. Dorota Glowacka, University of Kings College, CA, Committee Member
Greetings,
We are contacting several members of the Academic Committee regarding historical inaccuracies and ethnocentric lapses contained in the USHMM historiography of WWII history as “the Holocaust” without the war and crimes against the Polish nation as context.
All 3 relate to occupied Poland and war crimes against the Polish nation. As an American tax payer, and a Polish American scholar, I raised the issue with language and shared my concern with Dr. Adam Cyra at the Auschwitz Museum, who brought the Olkusz Massacre error to our attention.
-
Polish language option (https://www.ushmm.org click on “Language”) – USHMM main web page. We see a platitute of options, from Korean to Farsi, but no Polish. Since occupied Poland was the epicenter of German and Soviet war crimes – the lack is an “ideologically” based cold war manipulation. Whatever the motivation, the omission should be fixed immediately.
-
Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos (https://www.ushmm.org/research/publications/encyclopedia-camps-ghettos) – 14 June 1940 KL Auschwitz 1st day. This is an egregious omission, the opening day of KL Auschwitz as a camp for Polish “political” prisoners with the transport of 728 prisoners from Tarnów (see Danuta Czech, Auschwitz Chronicles).
-
Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos Olkusz – Bloody Wednesday 14 July 1940 via Dr. Adam Cyra correspondence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Wednesday_of_Olkusz – correct account per Dr. Cyra.
As Dr. Cyra points out, the appropriation of the massacre as a “Jewish” tragedy is repeated in the Yad Vashem account which should also be corrected: https://www.yadvashem.org/holocaust/this-month/july/1940-2.html
Both he and I have previously pointed this out to various persons within the USHMM staff and/or administration. Hence, I am including my legislative representatives in the distribution list of this correspondence to promote the necessary accountability.
Regards,
Dr. Krystyna Zamorska, Independent Scholar and Historical Consultant

Konferencja naukowa pt.
Appeal to Polish Americans
The US Government continues to send mixed signals regarding their attitude towards Poland and other NATO East Flank countries. While continuing their strong rhetorics about opposing the Nord Stream 2 pipeline construction on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, they fail to continue with sanctions on the German-Russian consortium Nord Stream AG, the principal constructors of the pipeline, owned in majority by the Russian GasProm. Under these circumstances the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is expected to be completed very shortly.

More than 120 retired military flag officers with Flag Officers 4 America published an open letter Monday warning that the United States is in “deep peril” and under “tremendous assault” by supporters of socialism and Marxism, urging Americans to get involved in “a fight for our survival as a Constitutional Republic like no other time since our founding.”

CPA letter to President Biden regarding the situation of Polish minority in Belarus
After recent arrests of Poles in Belarus, the Coalition of Polish Americans published the following letter to President Biden, expressing our grave concern for the safety of Polish minority in Belarus. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka, who has served as the first and only president of Belarus, faces widespread social unrest after last year elections. On August 19, the European Council issued a statement declaring that “The August 9 elections were neither free nor fair, therefore we do not recognize the results”. Lukashenka has a long history of using minorities and especially Poles as scapegoats to resolve domestic issues.
